Digging Deeper

Why exactly do you go to the movies?  Is it merely for entertainment, or do you go in hopes of being touched and learning something new?  Whether you go for entertainment or learning, most movies tend to have an underlying plot, or deeper meaning, that the audience can use to relate in their own lives.  This is the purpose of my blog.  Not to rate movies on how great the effects are, but to give a purpose to them and to us. Each blog entry I will take one movie, and tell how it can relate to not just my life, but everyones' in general.

  1. I think that films are a lot like books. Some films are just for the sake of entertainment, while others are exactly what you said, having an underlying plot and deeper meaning that will benefit you as an individual and also society. The same is for books, some just entertain, while others play an important role in our societies past as well as playing a part of shaping its future. Film is an important part of my life, it is my passion and what i hope to make my profession, well film and animation. I am currently in provo right now, and earlier today i was able to meet Ryan Woodward and attend his Conte Animated art exhibit. Ryan is an animator and teacher at BYU here in provo. Ryan recently produced a short animation film called "Though Of You" which is part of his exhibit now and also on his website http://ryanwoodwardart.com/short-films/. When I saw this short film it had a great impact on me. I would recommend this to everyone. This is a great example of the power and influence of film.

  2. I really like the idea of you blog. Like you, I always look for that underlying message. I will admit there are some movies that are only good for their entertainment purposes but there are a lot of really good movies that when we sit down and think about the movie a little deeper there is a great message we can learn and apply to our lives. I can't wait to see more about the messages you find in the movies.

  3. I like the angle you are taking with your blog and the fact you aren't rating the movies, but to give purpose of the movie. I am excited to see what movies you write about. A good movie, in my opinion, to talk about might be Inception. It has a lot of different meanings depending on the person. The top spinning at the end especially has a hidden meaning. Even though this was just commenting on your introducion it was written well.
